First of all, I've been told that I'm a kind therapist, but I'm known for my ability to be direct. I won't bubble wrap the truth for you, but I don't think you want that anyway. You want to progress in your journey toward meaning, and you want to leave behind a life ruled by your emotions.
I also try to cater what I'm doing with a client to the client preference. Some people like to read. Some people like to get into rather philosophical exploration. Some people are more creative and might enjoy sand tray therapy. There are a lot of options.
